The PGA Tour has come up with a standardized formula for all tour events that divides the tournament’s purse designating a specific percentage based on each place on the leaderboard. A PGA Tour tournament winner receives 18% of the overall purse, while the 70th place receives 0.2% of the prize fund.
THE PLAYERS Championship purse is one of the largest of any golf tournament. The winner of THE PLAYERS Championship also receives 80 points towards his world ranking, which is the largest share of any tournament aside from major championships. He also receives a three-year invitation to The Masters Golf Tournament®, three-year exemptions to the U.S. Open and The Open Championship and an exemption to the next three PGA Championships starting the following year. The winner of THE PLAYERS Championship is awarded 600 FedEx Cup points, if they are a PGA Tour member, and receives a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour.
