As the 2016 Ryder Cup came to a close on Sunday it proved that PLAYERS Champions were the ones to beat. With past winners such as Rickie Fowler on the American team and Henrik Stenson representing team Europe, the match was one for the history books.
Winning by the biggest margin since 1981, Team USA certainly has Arnold Palmer looking down on them. Fowler proved once again to be a dominating force in golf by defeating Justin Rose in his Ryder Cup match-up. Much like his unpredicted birdie-par-birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie victory at the 2015 PLAYERS Championship, Fowler drained several chips and putts, including Friday morning’s number 9 shot, to claim victory. Fellow PLAYERS winners Phil Mickelson (2007) and Matt Kuchar (2012) also proved to boast amazing rounds throughout the Ryder Cup weekend. Some signature shots from the weekend include Mickelson’s 40-foot putt to save par and Kuchar’s long birdie putt on 13.
With PLAYERS Championship alums Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson and Martin Kaymer, Team Europe wasn’t a team to take lightly at the beginning of the Ryder Cup competition. Although they came up short in the end, Garcia, Stenson and Kaymer all proved that PLAYERS Champions are hard to beat in any competition. With Garcia tying Mickelson and Stenson’s win over Jordan Speith, they displayed their skill and excellence with the game of golf.
