6 Golfers to Watch for at THE PLAYERS Championship 2018

Just to prove how difficult the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is, only two of the five players below have lived up to the challenge and received the honor of being a PLAYERS Champion. Each year, the world's best golfers head to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida to take part in the purest test in golf, THE PLAYERS Championship.

In 1982, THE PLAYERS Championship was played on the Stadium Course for the first time. It was the first ever course built with the golf fan in mind, while challenging even the worlds greatest golfers. Although the course has changed in many ways since 1982, the golfers who participated in the that tournament still remember how difficult it was.

Fred Couples, one of the greats, states, "It was so unbelievably intimidating that I don't think I played very well. But in 1984, I happened to win. But in 1982, it was just every shot had to be hit really, really precise. There was a lot of water, a lot of waist bunkers, a lot of difficult shots. But I love it. I've won it twice and I still love watching it because anything can happen. It's an amazing course."

Here are five of the world's best golfers, past champions, the current number one ranked golfer in the world, who are all equally eager to step foot on the greens at TPC Sawgrass in May:

Justin Thomas

Tiger Woods

Phil Mickelson

Rickie Fowler-1

Dustin Johnson-2

Jason Day-2

Below are a statements a few of these golfers have made regarding their experiences with the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass:

"This golf course tests every aspect of the game," explains Jason Day, who won the 2016 PLAYERS Championship. "It's a golf tournament that you really do want to win, because it's such a huge event. This could get you into the whole thing."

THE PLAYERS Championship 2015 winner, Rickie Fowler, is no stranger to the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. “It’s one of the toughest courses we play all year. So, I mean, whoever is winning is taking care of business, beating the best players at the time and conquering one of the toughest courses that we play.”

Tiger Woods, THE PLAYERS Championship 2013 champion, was incredibly pleased with this performance during the final round of the 2013 tournament. "I hit it so good today," he said after breaking from a tie with Sergio Garcia. Woods stated that he only his one bad shot that day, when his ball ended up in the water off the 14th tee.
