Often considered the 'fifth major' on the PGA TOUR, THE PLAYERS Championship has something in common with the four official major championships — they all boast the deepest playing fields that the sport has to offer.
THE PLAYERS Championship is often considered the unofficial “fifth major” of golf, and will be making it’s triumphant return to March next year! For an event that has only been around for less than five decades, THE PLAYERS Championship is still rich with history and has a fascinating story of its own to tell.
On Mother’s Day 2018, May 13th, Webb Simpson clinched THE PLAYERS Championship 2018 title. After losing his father last November, during an emotional interview Simpson said, “it’s been a tough few months for my mom, my brothers and sisters. This is a little beacon of light for my mom, to get this done on Mother’s Day.”
THE PLAYERS Championship is well underway and with one round of the tournament in the bag, fans and players alike are very confused. It may have been one of the most unpredictable first rounds with legends and former winners tied for last (yeah, we see you Lefty), and a few players tied for first have never won a major championship. It sets today and this weekend up for an exciting event when no one is quite sure what is going to happen.
Luke Combs will perform on Military Appreciation Day at THE PLAYERS Championship this year on May 8th. The country star will hold a concert on the 17th hole, the infamous Island Green, at 5:30pm for all guests to attend. Great music and an even better atmosphere, it’s sure to be a night to remember.
THE PLAYERS Championship is near as some of the world’s best golfers confirm their commitments to the PGA Tour’s unofficial fifth major. From the challenging nature of the holes to the overall design of Pete Dye’s famous Stadium Course, fans and professionals alike will enjoy the opening rounds of THE PLAYERS Championship.
Just to prove how difficult the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is, only two of the five players below have lived up to the challenge and received the honor of being a PLAYERS Champion. Each year, the world's best golfers head to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida to take part in the purest test in golf, THE PLAYERS Championship.
THE PLAYERS Championship has been played at The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass since 1982. As the first true “Stadium Course,” it was designed to improve the overall on-site fan experience and the course itself is tough even for the greatest players in the world.
